Yesterday's Groundhog Day brought conflicting reports of whether spring will arrive late or early, so I am personally (and wishfully!) siding with Staten Island's "Chuck", who did not see his shadow. Here's to an early spring!
This week both NYC Restaurant week and 20at20 continue to provide us with restaurant meals and theater tickets on the cheap. Also worth mentioning is City Bakery's 18th Annual "Hot Chocolate Festival", during which a different flavor of hot chocolate is offered every day for the entire month of February. Outside of food and theater, there is tons of art, music, and dance to choose from this week:
Tuesday, February 2nd thru Sunday, February 21st - the Parsons Dance Company and the East Village Opera Company team up at the Joyce Theater.
Wednesday - Stories in High Fidelity at the Bowery Ballroom features David Byrne.
Wednesday & Thursday - the X-initiative "Bring Your Own Art" (BYOA) show. 24 hours of display and performance by anyone inclined to share their art.
Thursday thru Sunday, February 14th - the Unsound Festival brings 11 days of European-based electronic music artists to NYC. Highlighting Saturday's performance of the Moritz von Oswald Trio with Levon Vincent Le Poisson Rouge.
Friday
- Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music" has been transcribed for classical instruments and will be performed at the Miller Theater.
Friday thru Sunday - the Outsider Art Fair presents artwork created by those "outside mainstream society".
